Friendster: Lost Photos

February 19th, 2008

I just noticed on my personal Friendster account that some photos have not appeared yet. So I contacted Friendster and asked what’s going on? Apparently, engineering is still working on the issue and should be resolved soon.

Another issue I noticed, when uploading or moving photos from one album to another; I kept getting an error. No biggie because usually when you see an error, it’s because server is busy or too many peeps are online. So I like to take a break from the laptop and try later this way I don’t pull my hair out. LOL

Friendster Photo Albums

February 14th, 2008

If you have not noticed yet, Friendster now has photo albums! The albums were launched yesterday. I noticed a couple of quirky stuff but don’t despair, this usually happens with any new product launch. Fortunately, for the user all issues are usually fixed within 24/48hrs. And if you do find something that is not working well on IE, you may want to try using Fire-Fox until the problem is fixed. Then send an email to Friendster support and give them a heads up. Have fun!

Friendster Notifications Settings:

February 11th, 2008

Someone sent me the following question: “How do I do it so my friends are NOT notified when I’ve updated my account, updated pictures, etc?” I could have replied back to the person and told them check the categories under notifications. But it’s ok; I can talk about Friendster features all day.

In regards to the notifications that Friendster sends out, you can prevent what is delivered to your personal e-mail box (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc) by modifying your Notifications Settings. So if you’re sick of group updates or friend updates, set your settings to NEVER. Let’s say you don’t like to receive news letters from Friendster either, set your radio button to NO instead of YES. However, if you’re wondering how your friend’s can stop receiving these’s types of notifications from your specific profile, I’m sorry there’s no setting. :-(

Who’s viewing my profile page:

February 8th, 2008

whosviewedme2.jpganonsetting.jpg

Who’s Viewed Me history page: This page can get pretty full when you’re popular, right? And you can’t tell who’s viewed your profile last because you have seven pages to look through. If you got an admirer looking at your profile but that person is on page 5 or 6, you won’t know because the profile has already been recorded. So the easiest way to see who’s viewed your profile “recently” is by resetting your anonymous setting. By resetting your anonymous setting, this action will remove your Who’s Viewed Me history page. In other words, all 100 profiles will be removed. Incase you’re interested in viewing a video on this, check our video section.

Malaysian pop star Karen Kong is one of the most popular people on Friendster, with over 150,000 friends.

“Asia is home to three-quarters of Friendster’s 58 million users, compared to 17% in the U.S., and it’s the source of 89% of the site’s traffic, compared to just 8% from North America.”

Hoax List:

January 28th, 2008

I wanted to post the following hoaxes as a reminder that theses are made up postings/messages. I guess people believe hoaxes because of the repetition posting.

  • Someone by the name of jay_jay_okocha07 and j_neutron07 wants to add you to their list. Do not accept it. It’s a virus. Tell everyone on your list. If somebody on your list adds them. You will get it too. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus.  Please pass this on to everyone on your list!! We need to find out.
  • If someone by the name of DJ KHUGAAN wants to add you to their list…don’t accept it!! Its a virus!!! Tell everyone on your list because if somebody on your list adds them,…you will get it too. It is a hard drive killer and a very horrible virus. Please pass this on to everyone on your list. We need to find out who using these accounts.
  • Bad news to you all! The B-14&F1H-7 virus had started to take action. Friendster had tried the best to exterminate these viruses. So during these few months, each member have to corporate with Friendster…

Spammers

January 23rd, 2008

spammer.jpg

Hi everyone! I’m sorry for not posting any new updates. I’ve been under the weather and still not 100%. Any how, life moves on.

Let’s chat about spam, today (fun)! Some of my guy friends complain about the Who’s Viewed Me page having fake profiles viewing them.

How do I prevent spammers from showing up on my Who’s Viewed Me history page?

  • Change your setting so you’ll have no Who’s Viewed Me feature.
  • But to prevent a spammer from viewing your profile? I don’t think such features exist.
  • Spam has been around since the beginning of the Internet and I seriously don’t believe that fakers or malicious users will ever stop.

Why doesn’t Friendster do something about these fake accounts?

  • I’m sure the support team is doing everything possible to control this problem and you can HELP them too by reporting the profiles.

How do I recognize a spammer profile?

  • The profile will actually be an advertisement for another site. For example a link to a “singles” website saying “they do not update their Friendster profile anymore, click on this link to find me”.
  • The profile has no profile information
  • Only one photo will be posted and usually of a good looking woman

Bogus Friend Request:

January 18th, 2008

Here’s a question I received via email:    I have “NEW Friend Request” in big, bold letters on my home page, but when I click it reads “You do not have any pending friend requests to confirm (Invite Page).      Why does this happen?

  • From what I’ve been told by the Gods at Friendster, this happens when someone sends you a friend request but in the interim, the profile either cancels their account or the account is suspended.

Do I really have a pending “new friend request?”

  • No, sorry you don’t.

   How to fix it?

  • Contact Friendster support to remove the bogus “new friend request.”

   Turn around fix time:

  • Umm, don’t’ focus on it too much. Go out and take a time out from your computer. ;-)
